Prevention Initiatives at Frostburg State

Frostburg State University is committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive living, learning, and working environment for all members of our University community to enjoy.  To ensure that our values of personal responsibility, diversity, and civility are promoted, the University provides a wide-array of prevention programs and trainings to our students and employees. 

The following programs are required to help maintain the integrity of our campus community:

AlcoholEdu

As part of our comprehensive alcohol prevention program, Frostburg State University expects each new full-time, degree-seeking student, including full-time transfer students with 30 academic credits or fewer, regardless of their personal views or experiences with alcohol or other drugs, to complete AlcoholEdu. This 3-hour program will expose students to topics of high-risk behaviors associated with alcohol and other drugs while highlighting important campus resources.  Invitations and reminders will be sent to student email accounts.

Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention

As part of the Start Talking Maryland Act, Frostburg State University expects each new full-time, degree-seeking student, including full-time transfer students with 30 academic credits or fewer, regardless of their personal views or experiences with other drugs, to complete Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention. This 45-minute prescription drug abuse prevention program will educate students regarding issues related to access of and harms associated with the misuse of prescription and other drugs. The program will discuss ways in which students can recognize the signs of abuse, assist others in seeking help, and treatment options and resources.  Invitations and reminders will be sent to student email accounts.

Cannabis: What You Should Know

In light of Maryland’s  HB 837 (Legalization of Cannabis)  and part of our comprehensive marijuana prevention program, Frostburg State University expects each new full-time, degree-seeking student, including full-time transfer students with 30 academic credits or fewer, regardless of their personal views or experiences with cannabis, to complete this 22 minute program which offers information to help students make informed decisions about cannabis, how to know when someone’s use has become problematic, and how to help a friend who may have a problem with their cannabis use while highlighting important campus resources. Invitations and reminders will be sent to student email accounts.

Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates

As part of our comprehensive gender-based harassment and violence prevention program, Frostburg State University expects each student to complete Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates. This 45-minute online course will expose students to the critical issues associated with gender-based harassment and violence and equip you with the necessary information to care for themselves and their fellow Bobcats. This program is required of all matriculated students, regardless of age, campus location, and credit hour. Invitations and reminders will be sent to student email accounts.

This 45-minute online course will expose students to the critical issues associated with gender-based harassment and violence and equip you with the necessary information to care for themselves and their fellow Bobcats. Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Prevention in the Workplace

As part of our comprehensive gender-based harassment and violence prevention program, Frostburg State University expects each employee to complete Intersections. This 45-minute online program discusses the ways employees can identify harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and related misconduct, prevent their recurrence, and report such instances to the appropriate department. This program is required of all University employees, regardless of their classification, position description, and engagement with students. Clery Act Basics

As part of our comprehensive safety and violence prevention program, Frostburg State University expects each employee to complete Clery Act Basics. This 45-minute online course informs employees of their responsibilities under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, including how to appropriately report crimes covered by this act. This program is required of all University employees, regardless of their classification, position description, and engagement with students.
